In order to get yourself out of debt, you must be seriously committed. It takes a lot of discipline, planning, and changes to your spending habits. In order to get out of debt, read the following tips, and follow them to a T.
Immediately stop using your credit cards and create a plan on how to pay your cards off. You will never pay them off if you continue making charges on them. Cut up unused credit cards and ask creditors to close accounts and provide letter stating they have done so. Set up and implement a monthly spending plan that will fit your monthly living expenses for both secured debts (auto, house) and unsecured debts (credit cards). Consolidate all your unsecured debts using a debt management program. Buy only what you can afford to pay with cash. Regularly review your credit report (all 3 major companies: Experian, Equifax , TRW) and dispute any errors. Avoid excessive inquiries. These can be caused by changing jobs, opening new accounts, etc. Bring delinquent accounts to current status as quickly as possible. Pay off accounts that are public records (tax liens and judgments), charge-offs and collections. Negotiate settlements when and where possible. Contact a reputable credit counseling agency for further help and suggestions.
