One problem with debt consolidation is that, in order to receive favorable terms and debt reduction, property must be put up as collateral, such as a home or auto. If the consumer still not learned to manage their finances after receiving reduced payments and lower interest rates, they face a great risk of losing more than they previously did. The faced foreclosure of their home and repossession of their auto are two probable outcomes. Another issue with debt consolidation is that, although the monthly payment and interest rate are reduced, the term is often extended as well, actually increasing the total amount owed. |
